At Shrivenham C of E Primary School, our chosen language is German. The children begin their language learning journey in Year 3 by exploring the basics of the German language, before moving on to learn more specific language techniques that could be applicable in other languages.
We teach the children a variety of different skills during our weekly MFL lessons. Throughout their time at Shrivenham C of E Primary School, the children will learn how to:
- ask and answer questions
- use correct pronunciation and grammar
- memorise words
- interpret meaning
- understand basic grammar
- use dictionaries
- work in pairs and groups, and communicate in German
- look at life in another culture
At Shrivenham, we aim to provide the children with opportunities to:
- explore another language in a way that is enjoyable and fun
- become curious about different languages
- be aware that language has structure, and that the structure differs from one language to another
- develop their awareness of cultural differences in other countries
- develop their speaking and listening skills
- develop a foundation for future study
