Sports Premium

Schools receive PE and sport premium funding based on the number of pupils in years 1 to 6. The funding is designed to improve the provision of PE and sports in primary schools.

On this page you will find details of how much funding we have received for this academic year and a full breakdown of how we’ve spent the funding or plan to spend the funding. You will also find details of the effect of the premium on pupils’ PE and sport participation and attainment and information about how we’ll make sure these improvements are sustainable for the longer term.

We used a small proportion of this money to pay for us to be part of the Vale Sports Programme. This offers training for staff and also a wider variety of competitions for the pupils. During 2015-16 we were involved in the Hockey, Tag Rugby, Football, Cross country, Netball, Boccia, Gymnastics, Tri Golf, Tennis and Athletics,  competitions at this level.

We also part funded two members of staff to train to gain their level 2 swimming teaching award which enabled us to run the year 5/6 swimming programme ourselves at the open air defence academy swimming pool.

30% was used to fund our school sports coordinator at FCC who organises more local partnership competitions and festivals for all the pupils to take part in. During 2015-16 we were involved in the Hockey, Tag Rugby, Netball, Cross Country, Basketball festival, Football festival, dance festival, Tennis, Athletics, Kwik Cricket  and swimming.

During 2015-16 we continued to fund lunchtime sports activities on our MUGA - This year delivered by TAs who had learnt from the sports coaches from the previous year - this is now a sustainable activity and involves many children who wouldn't ordinarily take part in sports activities across KS1&2  with Football, Hockey, Basketball and dodgball activities on offer. The TAs continue to award certificates at the end of each term which motivated the pupils.

We spent £3500 on replacing aging PE equipment , a new storage facility and outdoor apparatus to support  the physical development of younger pupils.

TAs were also paid to support some of the after school sports clubs where the numbers have grown too large for one member of staff to manage e.g. Hockey, Kwik Cricket.

We have £2000 to carry forward to the 2016-17 funding allocation which we intend to invest in some large permanent playground climbing and adventurous equipment to enhance the current provision. We also plan to invite in some coaches to offer some alternative ways to stay fit and healthy e.g. skipping workshops. The remainder of the grant  will continue to be used to fund the School Sports coordinator at FCC and the Vale sports programme as last year.

68% of children in key stage 2 took part in an after school sports club and over 50% of key stage 2 children took part in inter-school competitions.  34% of KS1 children have also taken part in an after school sports club. (2014-15 figures) All children across the school have opportunities for intra school competitions through our house teams.

In 2015-16 we have had much success in all the Partnership and Vale competitions. Most notably we finished 3rd at Vale level for Hockey, Netball and Gymnastics just missing out on the Oxfordshire finals and were winners in the Partnership at Netball, Tennis and Athletics.

We have also just successfully gained the Sainsbury’s GOLD school sports award for 2015-16 the third year in a row!
