Computing

Computing intent

At Shrivenham C of E Primary School, we aim to give our pupils the life-skills needed to enable them to embrace and utilise new technology in a socially responsible and safe way in order to flourish and be ready to operate within the 21st century workplace.

The curriculum is taught progressively allowing the children to become autonomous, independent users of computing technologies and gaining confidence to use technology to support learning across the entire curriculum as well as participating effectively and safely in a digital world. Our aim is for every child to not only be digitally literate and competent users of technology but to develop creativity, resilience, problem-solving and critical thinking skills in using and applying their computing knowledge. In doing so, the children will develop their understanding of themselves as individuals within their community, as members of a wider global community and as responsible digital citizens.

At Shrivenham, we aim to provide the children with opportunities to develop:

  • An excellent attitude to learning and independent working.
  • A deep understanding of how to stay safe online and when using information technology to protect themselves and others
  • Confidence to use technology competently and effectively
  • The ability to problem solve and be resilient to technological challenges such as debugging and coding
  • To develop creativity by using information technology across the subject to enhance and deepen understanding and knowledge
  • Skills and knowledge needed for work in the 21st century
  • An ability to think critically and evaluate what is seen, created and used online.
  • The ability to use time efficiently and work constructively and productively with others.
  •  A passion for the subject.
