Roves Farm Trip

In September, we went on our first class trip to Roves Farm. This was linked to our science topic Animals including Humans. The children had a brilliant time doing various activities including: a tractor ride, feeding the piglets, handling guinea pigs and piglets and having fun on the adventure playground.

Maths

In Maple class, we have been really busy learning new maths skills. The children have really enjoyed using different concrete materials to help them with their maths.

Science - Animals including Humans

In science, we have been learning all about animals. For one of our activities, the children made different animals out of tin foil, they loved doing this!

Bonfire Night

We learnt about Bonfire Night in Year 1. The children were able to talk about Guy Fawkes and went on to create firework artwork using paint and straws to blow the paint across the page. The children also had a fine motor skills activity set up in the tuff tray linked to fireworks.

Mandala Art

As part of our art unit, we looked at Mandala art. We then collaboatively created our own pieces of Mandala art using materials we could find outside. The children worked really well together and used their knowledge of Mandala really well.

Remembrance Day

To mark Remembrance Day, we had a special assembly that the children took part in led by the Worship Council - they did a fantastic job. In the classroom, we had a special Remembrance Day activity in the clasroom using the tuff tray. The children created poppies and hung them on our Remembrance tree.

Children in Need

To celebrate Children in Need, we had a spotty day in school. We had a lovely day with lots of activities including biscuit decorating and making our own spotty Pudsey ears.

Snail and the Whale

This term, our class book is the Snail and the Whale. The children are really enjoying this book and the discussion around the book is really lively. So far, we have written fact files about sea animals and a setting description of the sea. The children's writing is really improving and we are really proud of them!

Queen Victoria

Our topic this term is: Who were the Victorians?

To introduce our topic, we created some Queen Victoria art. The children really enjoyed creating these.

Art - printing

Children have been busy practising their printing skills this term. In this particular activity, children crated their own printing tile using polystyrene and then used to ink to print them onto paper. The finished pieces were really effective!

Prayer Space

We were lucky enough to visit the church altogether and take part in their annual Prayer Space. This year, it was Narnia themed and the children really enjoyed the different activities, especially making snowflakes.

PC Ben

We were visited by a police officer who read us the story of PC Ben. We learnt about all the different things the police do to keep others safe, we were then able to ask any questions we had.

Fruit Kebabs

As part of our DT curriculum, we had the opportunity to make fruit kebabs. We started by tasting different fruits to see which our favourites were. After this we designed, made, tasted and evaluated our own fruit kebabs. Our favourite part was defintely eating our finished fruit kebabs!

World Book Day

Our focus text for World Book Day this year was the book called Leaf. We read the book and discussed the main themes in the book: loneliness and friendship. We then created artwork based on the book and decorated our classroom door - it looked amazing once it was finished! Instead of dressing up, we turned potatoes into book characters. The entries were incredible!

Sevington Victorian School

As part of our history curriculum, we visited Sevington Victorian School. The children had the opportunity to dress up as Victorian school children and spend the day in role, even including a Victorian packed lunch! We did various activities on our trip including: writing with ink pens, making candles and playing with Victorian toys. We had such a good day!

Eco Fashion Day

On this day, we learnt all about fast fashion and how bad it is for the environment. We had lots of discussions about what we could do instead of buying new clothes and only wearing them a handful of times. We then created outfits using old school uniform and lots of materials that our families had donated. The children worked really well in teams and created some really funky outfits.
