  • Reading

Not every child wants to settle into their reading, so a key factor is to make it as enjoyable as possible, here are some ideas to help:

    •  Read a book at the same time as them
    • Take it in turns to read a paragraph or page each
    • Read to a younger sibling
    • Listen to an audio book or yourself reading them - it's still great to hear a book
    • Suggesting smaller chunks of reading time - just 10 mins a day is still great

When you read to them, see if they can explain what is happening or describe characters using evidence from the text. The key question is - how do you know this?

Try to vary the types of texts you read, consider magazines, newspapers, online articles, fact books (Guinness Book of Records is always a fun read!)
