Year 1 (Scroll down for Reception)
This term we have been counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. It would be great to practise this at home. Here are some games to enjoy:
Pile up socks or shoes.
Children race to make pairs while counting:
“2, 4, 6, 8…”
Real objects make counting in 2s feel natural.
Give high-fives while skip counting:
“5, 10, 15, 20…”
You can speed up each round.
Keep a balloon in the air.
Each tap = next skip-count number.
Example:
“5… 10… 15… 20…”
Try not to let the balloon drop.
Reception
Can you use your ordering skills to practise ordering numbers to 10? Or even 20? Enjoy this caterpillar game:
Caterpillar Ordering - An Ordering and Sequencing Game
Draw simple ladybirds with dots on one wing.
Children:
Very visual and easy to repeat.
Build a small LEGO tower.
Child must build the exact same tower beside it:
“Now we have double!”
Great for introducing equal groups.
