  • Attendance

At Shrivenham CE Primary School we want all our children to reach their full potential both academically and emotionally.  It is our duty to ensure that every child receives the best education possible; it is their legal right.

To give every child the best start we need your help! Attendance is key and we at Infants strive to achieve 100% Attendance for all children.  Attendance is linked to higher achievement and emotional well-being.

    School Hours

8.30am             School gates and registers open

8.40am             School gates close and registers close

If you arrive after 8.40am you must report to the school office and you will be asked the reason for the lateness.  The office team will make sure your child gets to their classroom.

    Reporting an absence

If your child is too ill to come into school please click here for NHS guidance on some common illnesses.

If your child is poorly or absent from school at short notice, please call the office before 9.00am on 01793 782406 and select option 1 to report the absence so all children can be accounted for or you can email absence into school: absenceshr@shr.cambrianlt.org

You must give a reason for absence, and detail the nature of their illness so that we can keep accurate records in school.

    Absence request

If you are planning to take any time off during term time you are required to complete an Absence Request Form and hand it to the admin office or click below.

    Absence Request Form

*Any term time absence requests will NOT be authorised.

The Head of School will consider your absence request if the request is due to exceptional circumstances and it might be authorised.
Please note, if your request is unauthorised and you continue to keep your child off school we may be required to notify the local authority's attendance officer.

    National Changes Letter

    • When booking medical appointments please try to get these out of school hours or at the very least towards the end of the school day, as in the morning we go straight into key learning in all classes. There is evidence that children can fall behind if they miss a session.
    • It is important that children are in school on time every day ready to start their learning
    • Term time holidays will not be authorised so please keep to the school holidays.
    • As of the 19th August 2024, a new attendance framework has been introduced whereby schools must refer to the County Attendance team and they may issue fines to families if a child has missed 10 or more sessions (this could be 5 whole days, or 10 sessions across a period of time) Each school day consists of 2 sessions per day.
    • Up to 2 fines (per parent, per child) will be issued within a 3-year period. Any unauthorised absences beyond this threshold will result in a parenting order or court proceedings where you could end up with a criminal record.
    • Children being late after the registers have closed will be recorded as unauthorised.

We understand there are some absences and lates that are unavoidable, however we must all strive to be in school on time to help children to thrive.
